About iCEBDA 2026
The 2nd International Conference on Econometrics and Big Data Analysis (iCEBDA 2026) is organized by the Centre for Big Data in Economics and Finance (CEBDA) at HSE University. It provides a leading international forum for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from academia, industry, and government to discuss recent advances and future directions in econometrics, economics, finance, business analytics, big data, and related fields.
This year iCEBDA travels to Xiamen, China, where it will be hosted by the Paula and Gregory Chow Institute for Studies in Economics at Xiamen University. The 2026 edition is especially meaningful, coinciding with the 105th anniversary of Xiamen University and the 10th anniversary of the Paula and Gregory Chow Institute.
Previous edition:
Keynote Speakers
Marc Hallin
Internationally recognized statistician and econometrician. Known for foundational work on rank- and sign-based inference, multivariate quantiles via measure transportation, and the General Dynamic Factor Model for high-dimensional time series. Fellow of the IMS and ASA, member of the Royal Academy of Belgium, and recipient of the IMS Pierre-Simon de Laplace Prize (2022).
Peter Reinhard Hansen
Henry A. Latané Distinguished Professor of Economics at UNC Chapel Hill, with prior positions at Brown, Stanford, and the European University Institute. A leading researcher in forecasting and volatility modelling; his contributions include the Test for Superior Predictive Ability, the Model Confidence Set, the Realized Kernel estimator, and the Realized GARCH framework — for which he received the Richard Stone Prize in Applied Econometrics (2014). Named four times to Thomson Reuters / Clarivate's list of the World's Most Influential Scientific Minds.
Mohammad Hashem Pesaran
Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Cambridge and Fellow of Trinity College, and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Economics at USC Dornsife. A foundational contributor to time-series and panel-data econometrics — in particular the econometric analysis of heterogeneous panels and long-run structural macroeconometrics. Developer of the Global Vector Autoregressive (GVAR) approach, used extensively by the IMF, ECB, World Bank, and other institutions to study international spillovers and global interdependence. Fellow of the British Academy and of the Econometric Society; named a Thomson Reuters Citation Laureate in Economics.
Yixiao Sun
Leading econometrician at UC San Diego. Known for foundational work on robust inference under temporal, spatial, and spatio-temporal dependence, with current research on nonparametric and semiparametric inference at the intersection of machine learning and causal inference. Joint Editor-in-Chief of Econometric Theory, Fellow of the Journal of Econometrics, and recipient of the Plura Scripsit (2019) and Multa Scripsit (2007) Awards from Econometric Theory.

Venue
The conference will be hosted at Siming Campus, Xiamen University, China by the Higher School of Economics together with the Paula and Gregory Chow Institute for Studies in Economics. Founded in 1921, Xiamen University is one of China's oldest and most prestigious universities, and its seaside Siming campus — with palm-lined avenues, a lotus lake, traditional Min-Nan architecture, and a beach within the campus grounds — is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful university campuses in China. The Chow Institute, established in 2016 with the support of Professor Gregory C. Chow of Princeton University and Ms. Paula Chow, brings together the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE) and the School of Economics, and is a leading centre for economics and econometrics research in Asia.
Address: Economics Building, No. 422, Siming South Road, Siming District, Xiamen, Fujian 361005, China. Tel: +86 0592 2188827. Click here for the map.

Getting around Xiamen: Xiamen is well covered by metro, BRT, and city buses. Mobile payment apps (WeChat Pay, Alipay) and international cards on metro turnstiles are widely supported; Didi is the standard ride-hailing app. We recommend downloading Amap (高德地图) or Baidu Maps for the most accurate routing inside the city.
About Xiamen
Xiamen is a coastal city in southeast China, set on an island in the Taiwan Strait and connected to the Fujian mainland by bridges and a causeway. With its mild subtropical climate, palm-lined avenues, clean beaches, and colonial-era architecture, Xiamen consistently ranks among China's most liveable cities. Early December is typically mild and sunny (around 14–20°C) — an ideal time to combine the conference with a few days of sightseeing.
The campus itself is one of the sights
The Xiamen University Siming campus is regularly cited in Chinese media and travel guides as one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. It sits between the sea and the wooded Wulao Hills, with traditional red-tile Min-Nan rooflines, a lotus-filled lake, century-old banyans, and direct access to Baicheng Beach. Right outside the campus gate stands Nanputuo Temple, one of southern China's most important Buddhist temples. Many visitors plan a half-day just to walk the campus and the temple together.
Sightseeing in Xiamen
-
Gulangyu Island A UNESCO World Heritage car-free island a short ferry ride from the city, famous for late-19th-century colonial mansions, narrow lanes, music history, and the panoramic Sunlight Rock viewpoint. -
Nanputuo Temple A working Buddhist temple of Tang-dynasty origin, set against a wooded hillside immediately next to the conference venue. -
Hulishan Fortress A Qing-dynasty coastal fortress on the southern shore, home to the world's largest 19th-century coastal cannon still in its original position. -
Zhongshan Road The old town's pedestrian street — arcaded shophouses, Min-Nan street food, and a lively evening atmosphere. -
Shapowei A converted fishing village turned arts-and-café district along a small harbour, especially photogenic at golden hour. -
Wanshi Botanical Garden A sprawling subtropical garden behind the campus, with a celebrated cacti and succulent collection.
Food & tea
Xiamen's cuisine sits at the heart of Min-Nan (Southern Fujian) food culture — expect fresh seafood, oyster omelettes, sweet-and-savoury satay noodles (sha cha mian), peanut soup, and a strong tea culture built around Fujian oolongs like Tieguanyin and Da Hong Pao.

A wide range of hotels — from international chains to local boutique options — is available within walking distance or a short taxi ride from the Xiamen University Siming campus. Recommended hotels and any negotiated conference rates will be listed here closer to the event.
